Company Profile

Natura Resources is partnering with Abilene Christian University (ACU) in Texas to deploy a molten salt research reactor on the university campus — a first-of-its-kind academic deployment of advanced nuclear technology in the United States. Competing in the DOE Reactor Pilot Program, Natura has secured a DOE HALEU commitment for their ACU partnership reactor. The campus-based deployment model is designed to demonstrate advanced reactor technology in a research setting while training the next generation of nuclear engineers. The reactor uses chloride salt with HALEU fuel and is located at ACU's Center for Energy and Environmental Resources in Abilene, Texas.

Reactor Specs
REACTOR DESIGN
ACU Partnership · Molten Salt Research Reactor

Uses molten fluoride salt as coolant instead of water. Operates at higher temperature for greater thermal efficiency.

POWER OUTPUT
1 MWe

Powers ~813 average US homes. A standard large nuclear plant produces ~1,000 MWe.

COOLANT
Chloride Salt

Very high boiling point means low operating pressure. Chemically stable. Salt solidifies if leaked — passive containment.

FUEL TYPE
HALEU

High-Assay Low-Enriched Uranium. More energetic than standard fuel but requires dedicated US enrichment capacity not yet fully built out.

TARGET OPERATION
2026

US nuclear projects historically require 7–10 years from construction permit to first power. The 2026 target assumes factory-built modular components and no major regulatory delays.

SITE LOCATION
Abilene Christian University, TX

Dow Chemical industrial complex. Reactor heat will directly decarbonize Dow's manufacturing processes — the first nuclear-industrial heat application in the US.
